Don’t you just love the sound of the flute? When I was a kid I loved to listen to the flute in “The Nutcracker Suite.” It used to play on TV every fall on PBS. My folks hated it! They didn’t appreciate music very much. It wasn’t until junior high when my sister got a record player that I really got to listen.

I got really curious about the instrument when I heard it used in Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” and Ian Anderson’s “Aqualung” album. It wasn’t until I actually wrote a song called “Hey Babe” for the American Song Festival Competition and heard the flute accompaniment in my mind that I’d get a flute and teach myself to play it for the song. The song won Honorable Mention and I had a flute!
